Caregiver Lindsay With Scoliosis Looking For Government Disability Grant
by Lindsay Shrum

My name is Lindsay. I am 26 years old. I have suffered from chronic severe back pain for the last four years. I finally was able to get a doctor to take me seriously enough to take X-rays of my back.
A week after the X-rays were taken I was called and diagnosed with scoliosis. I also have a tilted pelvis and a tailbone that dislocates and when it is out of place the pain is unbearable.
I have worked in a nursing home as a CNA for the last four years. The pain in my back makes it almost impossible for me to care for my residents anymore.
Today I decided to take a 30-day medical leave of absence so I can get through my physical therapy and get myself strong again. I am going to school right now to become a dietitian and work with adolescents with eating disorders.
My hopes in getting a government grant would be to become a full-time student and not have to worry about working until my education is complete.
The pain that I have been in and the fact that I am so young and already having serious health problems is causing me to have a great deal of depression.
On top of all that I try to reach out to my parents for support and they just don't seem to care. I am lucky enough to have a boyfriend who is my rock right now. He supports every step I take.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for sending me any help you can.
