Brain Tumor Survivor Seeks Business Grant Money For Coffee Shop

by Josephine Kenery
(San Bruno, CA, USA)

My name is Josie. I've lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for 33 years now. I was born in the Philippines.

I'm single and 45 years old. I enjoy running, meditating and cleaning.

I had a brain tumor. It was hydrocephalus secondary to third ventricular. I was told I had it ever since I was a child.

They removed some of it on March 5th 2007. I had another surgery to put a shunt in my head 4 days later.

After over a year later on May 19th 2008 I had to go back for proximal shunt malfunction.

In July 2008 I had another surgery for shunt replacement due to failure again.

This time my surgeon said that it's the right shunt for me.

My status was permanent disabled.

My income changed significantly from working in the hospital as a Biomedical Technician to receiving disability and working part-time as a crossing guard.

I was fortunate to have the money I'm receiving and able to pay for my mortgage. I'm still looking for ways to do more in my life.

I am working part-time as a crossing guard. And I'm receiving disability.

I would like to earn an income through a business. I'm looking for a grant to buy a business.

I want one where I can earn some income and get out of the disability program.

My idea is to buy an existing coffee shop where I can come to work everyday and make sandwiches and coffee.

Go to the government agency and talk to them. See who they can send you to. Make sure you have a very good business plan before you go. Make it very itemized and show how you will run the business, what your projected sales will be, suppliers, building code, new laws, etc.
