Bipolar Disabled Father Seeks Grant Money For Prescriptions And Debt Relief

by Douglas
(Dyersburg, TN, USA)

My Wife and I

My Wife and I

I am a 50-year-old man with a wife and two kids.

My son is 20 years old, in the Army living out of state, and my daughter is 18 years old, living at home and starting college in two months.

I have several mental disabilities: bipolar with psychotic features, depression, anxiety and ADHD.

It started in February of 2006 when I was a truck driver. I tried to kill two people and tried to kill myself.

I was checked into a mental hospital where I was diagnosed with the above conditions.

I am on medications for these conditions but have returned to the mental hospital two times since 2006 for homicidal and suicidal thoughts.

I am still disabled and have not worked since 2006.

The monthly cost of my 13 daily medications is overwhelming: $94 Medicare, $110 part D prescription drug coverage and $190 out-of-pocket co-pay expenses.

My wife makes $12,432 a year, but spends $282 a month for health insurance for her and our daughter.

My wife is on 6 medications a day and her out-of-pocket co-pay expense is $47 a month.

Between us we spend $723 a month total for health care and prescription medications.

I receive SSDI as of 2008, although I've been declared disabled since 2006. My monthly payment from SSDI is $1845 a month.

My daughter collected $923 a month based on my disability, but that ended when she graduated from high school last month.

I am looking for a grant to help me pay for my medications and to pay off my Visa credit card.

I have had to use my Visa card to pay for my medications and have reached my credit limit.
