Bipolar Disabled 47 Year Old Seeks Government Grant To Further Education

I am 47 years old and was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder in 2002. I was having trouble getting along with people on my job and most of my family.

I checked into a mental institution to find out what was wrong with me. I was devastated but at the same time relieved to finally have a diagnosis. I was put on medication in hopes that I could function and continue to work, but I continued to have problems on my job.

I started working at age 14, wanting to make my own way, as I am very independent. It was hard to finally realize that I would have to give up my job and try to get well. So I spent the next four years at home, not working, and becoming more depressed.

I am not one to sit at home and draw a disability check. I have dreams and goals that I want to pursue. In October 2007, I took a part time job at a local furniture store.

More and more I began to have less symptoms and felt that I wanted to work more hours. Unfortunately, due to business slowing down, they were not able to give me more hours and after two years there I was laid off.

I began to search for jobs and quickly found out that I needed a degree. Although I have over 20 years experience in Health Information, I was not getting the calls for interviews.

So I am trying to get a degree as a Coding Specialist. Since I will have the opportunity to work from home, it is a good fit for me with my disability.

I am hoping to get a grant to help pay for my tuition. Being on a fixed income does not allow me to do it financially on my own.

As they say, "A mind is a terrible thing to waste," and I don't want to waste mine. Please help me become self-sufficient. I want my life back. Thank you.
