65 Year Old Disabled RN Seeks Grant For Legal Nurse Consultancy Business
by Judith Roberts
(St. Louis, Missouri, USA)
I am 65, bright eyed and bushy tailed. I have been married for more than 40 years and my husband.
We have raised three successful young adults, who give back to their communities. We spend a good deal of time with our grandson, sitting for him.
I obtained an R.N. degree and a Bachelors of Science in Nursing, also a Masters in Hospital Administration. I have many years of experience in the healthcare field.
I love education and plan to be in "school" when I'm 100.
I can't think of a better way to keep sharp than going to school. It gives purpose and meaning to your life to learn and contribute.
For the last several years, I have met the challenges of increasing spinal stenosis and increasing loss of mobility.
I was diagnosed with severe spinal stenosis and arthritis, about 10 years ago. I take medication to control the inflammation and pain.
At this time, there has been no further progression of the disability although my mobility is still curtailed. I'm not letting that stop me!
Although my physical mobility has decreased, I use the time to develop my mental, spiritual and intellectual abilities.
I continue to have a positive mental and spiritual outlook.
My husband and I receive social security benefits and this pays for our mortgage and other financial obligations. We have no other financial resources.
I wanted to purchase a mobile device for the home, so that I can continue to take care of the house cleaning, do laundry and care for various family pets.
But this can wait until I am earning income.
We obviously needed to find a way to increase our income beyond social security benefits.
I found a program that through licensure would enable me to start a home based online business using my RN degree.
This opportunity would bless us with the ability to earn income and continue to be productive in our society.
In the last four years, both my husband and myself undertook to change careers from the medical field to the financial/futures-trading field.
We have both studied for the last four years to begin trading futures in the futures market.
As the economy has changed so has our outlook for this kind of a trading business at this time.
My husband plans to continue to pursue a career in the financial markets. At this time, he is using a Simulator.
At some point in the future, perhaps in the next 12 months he will possibly be in a position to earn money from this undertaking.
Although my RN is still active, at 65 and dealing with increasing lack of mobility, I realized floor nursing would not be an option for me.
In looking at various businesses both home-based and online, I discovered the Legal Nurse Consultant Field.
I have spoken to an educational institute that provides a full course for licensure and turnkey operations in setting up a home based, online legal nurse consulting business with the help of their own legal nurse consultant mentors.
This discovery is actually an answer to prayers and would be ideal for someone in my circumstance and physical condition.
I am looking for the program tuition, which is $13,000.
The program would enable me to become licensed in about 4-6 weeks, do an online apprenticeship and begin a home-based consulting business.
I would market to local attorneys who deal with medical cases, workers compensation, product liability, etc.
There is a very large market in St. Louis for this kind of consultancy and there are only 80 licensed in the state of Missouri.
In other words, there is a niche market for my skills and with licensure and my past work and education experience, I foresee in three months, being able to market and obtain clients.
The program also helps with marketing. You actually have a first place position in their Google marketing campaign.
This is virtually a guarantee of clients immediately on finishing your program and licensure, even clients from out of state.
This business would provide the support that both my husband and I need to become self-supporting taxpayers again and to be able to help others.
I would set up a Legal Nurse Consultancy business based in my home, using my computer.
I would prepare letters to the legal community introducing myself and my practice and through telephone and face to face meetings, I would prepare records and reports pertinent to the case.
From home, I can do the research, which pertains to care standards for that particular case.
Consultations can be done by phone from my home.
From past clients, the program can show data that people can be up and running with active clientele in as little as 8 weeks.
Using a nurse licensed for this kind of consultancy saves money for the firm, as nurses can bill for considerably less than physicians but provide more in depth resources especially in regard to hospital practice and nursing care.
Licensed legal nurses usually begin billing at $200-$250 per hour. Hours that are billed are for reading and interpreting records, writing reports, consulting with witnesses and preparing their statements, providing other experts in the field.
Typically a single case can be billed at around $5,000, which is still a fraction of physician billable services.
According to this program, two to three lawyers can keep one legal nurse consultant busy.
Their turnkey operation provides everything you need to start your home-based business. It's complete.
Other costs in the future would involve expenses for marketing, travel, meetings, use of other subcontractors, computers and monitors, and possibly clerical help with the growth of the business.
Although I am asking for tuition, if there was provision, marketing monies and personnel monies, along with computer equipment expenses would enable me to grow at a faster projected pace.
This would be good for my personal finances. I could support myself without the strain of not being able to meet everyday financial obligations.
