60 Year Old Woman Seeks Grant Money For Badly Needed Dental Work

by Bonnie
(Tennessee, USA)

I have been disabled for over 10 years with a bad back and arthritis. I live on SSI and get food stamps and medical. But I have no dental coverage.

I brush and floss daily but I was born with brittle teeth. I am in pain every day. I have pus in my gums and they bleed. I have tried every avenue to get help.

I have asked to make payments but they say no I don't make enough to allow that.

I don't drive so it makes it hard for me to get to a dental school for help. It's over five hours away.

I have family here but they work and can't take me. The handy van could take me but I can't afford the cost.

Some days I am tempted to take the tools I have and pull them out myself.

I also know that bad teeth affect your heart. I am 60 years old have had heart trouble. A valve doesn't work and it fills with blood. Nothing to be worried about yet, but they check me out.

It's funny that the government will pay for me to be healthy but will not cover my dental needs at least not here in Tennessee.

I did go to a free dentist who took one look at my teeth and took x-rays and said, "They are too bad. I can't help you." He gave me a list of dental programs to help me. I called them all and they all said NO. No money no help.

I have been trying to get help for over six months now. It's getting so bad that it's hard to brush my teeth now; they are breaking down fast. I don't smile any more because they look so bad. I need dental plates. I just don't know what else to do.

Borrowing money is not an option I cannot afford to pay it back. I am caught between a rock and a hard place. HELP ME please! Thank you. Bonnie.

At Keystone Dental in Tennessee, you may be eligible for free to low cost dental help.:

I was surprised that you don't qualify for up to one free full set of dentures being insured by Medicare, or Medicaid. If you don't already have health insurance, you could contact your caseworker at the Department of Job and Family Services and tell them your situation.

Good luck to you.

Sincerely,

Katina from Accessible.org
