54 Year Old Disabled Widow Proposes Grants And Benefits Solution

by Ms. J. Rowland
(Cumming, GA, USA)

I found this site by desperately typing out "what government dept do I get in touch with to aid a disabled person with housing."

I am a 54-year-old widow on disability. Recently my home in Georgia was struck by a tree, severely damaging the roof and flooding the entire contents.

I have been staying in a hotel ever since and quite frankly the cost is just about to consume every dime I have.

BUT EVEN WORSE now as many other times in my life I am once again faced with the endless and frustrating task of finding the right venues to get help.

I'm not going to bore everyone with all the details of my disabilities, which are both physical and mental, except to say that MUCH of my disability stems from a constant beating and severe negligence.

By whom?

Unfortunately it is from our "help" resources. I have seen and heard more incoherent help mumbo jumbo than I could ever believe.

For all you out there you know exactly what I mean. There is absolutely no resource for help that is clear, precise, and immediate to be found as far as the eye can see.

I for one have been knocked down so many times by our "help" departments till one day I couldn't get up anymore.

It lasted about eight months because I had been stricken with disillusionment. That is something that will take your heart, your soul and your mind.

Yep. It leaves you pretty helpless, because hopelessness can be the worst of all afflictions.

Anyhow I guess I have dreamed many times of getting to talk with our President and what I would say on the behalf of the American people.

If there is any hope for us to survive, we desperately need easy and CLEAR access to our resources. Every resource should clearly state exactly what it can and cannot do and even direct you to the correct venue according to your individual needs.

My vision is for our President to appoint a team of persons to write and revise all needed resources, making it so simple a two year old could follow its directions.

Also it should be ordered that every state and county should do the same. Then these publications should be made available to each and every household by mail.

No more searching everywhere ordering pamphlets from here or there waiting days for them to arrive just to receive the wrong info, or worded where you can't make heads or tails of it to begin with.

Lets face it, to run an efficient and productive country you need quick and efficient answers thus boosting the moral and spirits of all.

And hey, wouldn't it also help out with the economy if we didn't have to put out so many dollars for health and homeless issues?

HOW? If everyone had easy and CLEAR access to their resources, much of this could be avoided.

I wasn't born disabled. In fact I had a nursing degree, taught pre-school, had a strong faith in God and country and was quite the social butterfly.

Now my credentials read "severe social anxiety disorder."

I set myself as an example of what I am saying and I humbly ask that my request be carefully considered for the good of all. Thank-you and good night!

Does anyone know the how-to?
by: D.Hamilton

Okay! I'm in! I had to read this one twice for the entire content to set in and once it did well? I have to say that I myself will be contacting MY lawmakers on this one. I am ashamed to say that I have never attempted in all my 62 years to have a say in any political matter but THIS could be a world changing event if it were to ever be realized. I would be proud to be a part of that. Can anyone advise me how to begin a process such as this one? Please, anyone reply, as I'm afraid I'm not very knowledgeable about this type of thing. I would like to get started on this amazing concept as soon as possible. Well better late than never.

You GO GIRL!!
by: KJH

This was awesome to read, and very inspiring. Although I am having issues of my own, I have been where you were as well, and feel the results of the same beating and neglect. I am in a situation of trying to get medications desperately needed for a diabetic husband, an epileptic son, and myself - with no hope in sight.

WE NEED people to get your message to the President - and all the other lawmakers out there who control the "public" information. If it is public... where the heck is it??

C'mon folks! I am amazed that there are only 2 comments to this story. Yes, I need help too, but I am not incapable of action - especially where it will benefit many more people than just me. I will do what I can to follow up on this story, and contact MY lawmakers.

How many are willing to do the same? If we inundate them with this story and emails, letters, and phone calls, maybe... just MAYBE someone will listen and something will begin to happen. One voice can turn into millions so very easily.

JUST DO IT!

I'm impressed. Your idea makes sense and it could actually work.
