53 Year Old Disabled Veteran Seeks Grant Money For Bathroom Repairs

by Hubert Collins, Jr.
(Littlefield, TX, USA)

I am a 53-year-old, 40% disabled veteran on S.S.I. I am looking to get some kind of help for a walk-in bath.

In the last two years I have hurt myself so many times, falling while getting in and out of the tub, once knocking out my front teeth.

It would mean everything to me if I could get money to help fix up my bathroom, and get my broken teeth fixed.

My income is less than $20,000 a year. By the time I make my house payments and the rest of the bills I have nothing left, certainly not enough for dental work.

Please, if there is any help out there I would be grateful. Thank you for your time. Hubert Collins, Jr.

P.S. This was the hardest thing to do… asking for help!

Congratulations on making the effort to submit your story to Accessible.org.

With the publication of your story, you are now well on your way to:

1. Getting your story known to a wide audience that could help you.

2. Getting your story polished up and presentable so you can submit it elsewhere, including the White House.

As a disabled person myself, I can sympathize with your situation and I definitely understand your need for help.

I've done a bit of research and found these resources for you:

HSR&D Home
http://www.hsrd.research.va.gov/

Specially Adapted Housing Program http://www.homeloans.va.gov/sah.htm

State Veterans Affairs Offices
http://www.va.gov/statedva.htm

Others reading your story may be able to contribute more.

In any case, please let us know if they've been helpful to you.

Good luck!
