50 Year Old Disabled Army Veteran Seeks Help To Return To Work

by Alan Duncan
(Scottsdale, AZ, USA)

I'm a 50-year-old disabled Army veteran. I retired from the Army in March of 2005.

I've been married to my wife for 19 years. We have no kids.

Right after we got married my wife became disabled due to an accident at work.

She is on now social security, but it is less than a quarter of what she had been making, so I am essentially the sole provider.

My disabilities have to do with my knees and right ankle, which were injured while I was in Iraq.

The injuries ended my military career.

I am unable to perform the job I did in the Army, so I have been having trouble finding work because I was forced to change my career field.

I'm 60% disabled at this time, but have put in for an increase, due to my injuries getting worse.

I have been unable to find work since my 2-year fellowship with the wounded warriors project ended.

I was working as a veteran caseworker for Congressman Ed Pastor District 4 AZ.

There is no work to be found in Arizona unless you have a degree.

My VA benefits are not enough to pay my bills.

My wife and I will be homeless soon if I don't find work soon.

I have been looking for work all across the US. I will relocate for the right job offer.

I need some kind of assistance, and a job. I could also use some kind of help finding a job.

I know you have heard the story give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach him to fish and you feed him for life.

I could use a grant to pay my rent and put food on my family's table and for repairs on my jeep, which needs new tires and a radiator.

In closing I would like to ask if there is anyone out there that could help me, or have any ideas as to what I can do to improve my situation.

Any form of help would be greatly appreciated.

How long has it been?
by: Ken

Hi Allen,
It seems that you may have ran out of time to do anything about your situation. But there could be a recourse. You may have been under too much stress to handle the paperwork needed to tend to time-sensitive documents. Get a letter from a doctor stating your state of mind the last few years, and how the situation has become severe. Try this link and go from there, if you haven't tried it yet.

Good luck,
Ken
