49 Year Old Veteran Seeks Government Grant For Accessible Home Repairs

I am a 49-year-old disabled veteran with several back and neck problems. My disability needs require us spending money we don't have.

My doctors recommend that I have a special bathtub for my neck and back and to have my home modified. Unfortunately the modifications that they suggest are out of our budget.

I have been disabled for several years and now I am not able to work. I have a set income and can only do a little to help with my daily household.

At this time we are so behind in our mortgage we are afraid we might lose our home as well. My income is not getting any higher than the disability I receive and my husband's income does not cover the bills. That is why we cannot afford anything.

As I get older it is getting worse and I am not able to get around without assistance. My family has been trying to save up enough money to get my house adjusted for me. Unfortunately we just do not have the money.

I need to have a handicap bathroom installed on the first level, the front steps to be modified, the stairs in my home to be modified and the kitchen to be made safe for me.

I am unable to go up and down my stairs at times because I am unable to control my muscle spasms. So I fall which makes it worse.

I am afraid to drive my car because I am unable to control my legs so my husband looked into getting me a vehicle that could be adjusted for me. We are not able to afford this. So I have to make sure someone is with me.

For us to come up with the funds is not possible. My family and I would be very appreciative of any financial assistance or help in getting available government grants for the adjustments that are needed.
