46-Year-Old With MS Wants Government Grant Money To Start Her Business
by Laurie Roskop
(Little Falls, NJ, USA)
I am 46 years old with multiple sclerosis, which has left me legally blind. I'm looking for government grant money or any other assistance to help me start my own business.
It has been extremely difficult to find employment because of my disability coupled with the economic issues. But I keep trying. It is vital that I continue to be an integral part of society, not only because I can offer a lot, but because I need social interaction and a reason to get up in the morning.
I would love to open a business of my own which will allow me to call the shots so to speak without penalty of breaking some "corporate laws," which I understand are in place for a reason.
I have an introductory schematic for the business and have checked the competition to insure a lucrative endeavor. Now I need the financial means to get it running. I live (barely) on SSD so I have no means of doing this alone.
Because of my failing sight it is difficult for me to read all the literature here on your site so I would welcome the chance to talk to someone on the phone if that is acceptable.
Once the business has been set up I can have the NJ Commission for the Blind come in and they have already agreed to help make things "sight capable" for me. I just need the chance to do so.
I would appreciate some feedback on my situation and if you think this dream might come true. I look forward to hearing from you.
