44 Year Old Widow Seeks Grant For Higher Education And Computer Upgrade

by Krystal Carrell
(Trail, Oregon, USA)

Hello, my name is Krystal. I'm 44 years old and I became a widow when my husband passed away last August.

My mom passed away in June of this year. I have no children. I live with my father on land that has been in the family for over 100 years.

I am pursuing higher education in the medical coding/transcription field. I worked for the Veterans Administration as lead inpatient medical clerk for a number of years.

I would like to work from home as my mobility is limited, and I live on a mountain about 40 miles from the nearest city.

My husband died on August 6, 2010 and on August 15, I was in a car accident and lost my left leg as a result.

I am healing very well with the exception of developing cellulitis in my stump as well as my right leg.

This makes being fitted for a prosthetic very challenging since I have significant swelling as well as severe muscle spasms in my stump.

I have been denied SSI because under the guidelines, I am not disabled enough to qualify

My financial hardship is the fact that I have no income. However, my medical expenses are covered by the state and I receive food stamps.

I would like to work from home since I no longer drive.

I would like to be considered for a grant in order to pay for online classes as well as upgrading my computer system to support my home based career.
