43 Year Old Stroke Disabled Homeless Man Wants His Former Life Back

by Andre Dewayne Lewis
(Detroit, MI, USA)

I'm writing this letter to request a grant. I'm a 43-year-old male. First I would like to let you know about my life.

I suffered two stokes approximately two years ago. Due to the loss of my medical coverage I could not afford to pay for my prescription medicine.

As a result I am now disabled and my finances are totally depleted. I'm also a victim of a house fire without renter's insurance, so I lost everything.

I am now homeless and have living in my vehicle for over six months. I'm requesting a grant so I can try to build my life and stabilize my future. Sincerely, Andre Lewis.

Have been in your shoes...

Have you considered relocating to an area that can provide you with the services and medical help you need? Washington state particularly a 35 mile radius of Seattle has numerous resources that could help. Iowa is another area that has a great system. They both really believe in rehabilitation. Maybe life is trying to tell you something. Ask your local Salvation Army for a donation for gas money. You want at least $500 to make this trip. You're in your car anyway so take your time and see some of the country. Contact agencies beforehand or go to websites to have the material needed to apply for state benefits when you get there. Good luck!
