35 Year Old Lupus Disabled Woman Seeks Grant Money To Regain Independence

by Yashica Wellons
(Pontiac, Michigan, USA)

I turned 35 on June 6th, 2009! I never thought my life would be limited and I would be depending on my family like I've been doing for the last couple of months.

I was diagnosed with Lupus (SLE) a couple years ago, which has been controllable. It didn't keep me from working or taking care of myself!

Recently, though, I have been having seizures and not knowing the cause of them. I have had so many tests done, and seen so many doctors! I still don't understand my situation and why this is happening to me!

I have collapsed in front of my daughter, who is only a toddler. She is scared to death. She hates to leave my sight!

I have been in two car accidents and totaled my car but was spared my life and child's life. I have fractured my nose and ended up with two black eyes.

So much has happened in such a little time! I'm totally dependent on my friends, family and church members.

I'm looking for some type of help with transportation services, considering the fact I need to get around and cannot always rely on my family! Where can I get the help, money, or the expense paid for?

My prayers go out to you and your daughter
by: Anonymous

Hi Yashica,

I am from Pontiac as well and I wanted to let you know that my heart goes out to you and your daughter. I'm a registered nurse with two daughters myself and I couldn't imagine suffering from a medical condition that could ever hinder me from being a full-time and dedicated mother to them.

I'm not sure how this message is supposed to help you, but I would suggest you check your options for disability benefits as well as investigating whether or not you would qualify for an in-home care giver, to be certain you are doing well and not suffering from your seizures while caring for your daughter while you are both home alone. I'm also thinking that maybe you could hire a college student to do some light housekeeping, help you care for your daughter, and do some of your driving on certain days of the week.

Again, you are in my prayers and I hope everything turns out fine with you and yours.

Be blessed Yashica.
