35 Year Old Epilepsy Disabled Woman Seeks Help Paying Neurological Meds
by Elizabeth
(Virginia, USA)
I am a 35-year-old single female and have been living with epilepsy for 33 of those years.
Aside from the longevity of the disease, I have been on 90% of all the meds on the market. I have also had invasive brain surgery and a separate implantation surgery.
I have essentially maxed out the options. The costs for monthly medications, on the existing COBRA plan, which expires in January, is between $700-800 and I am on disability of only $1150!
In addition to the epilepsy, which I have learned to live with, despite its impact on my personality, activities, and relationships, I was diagnosed with major depression three years ago.
Although there is medical evidence linking the two, that is cold comfort when trying to merely function, or figuring out how to pay for the next medication. Neurological meds are not cheap and don't exactly fall into the 'optional' category.
I have spent an overwhelming amount of time searching for people, places, or things that would help allay the expense.
I have used close to 80% of my savings trying to stave off the inevitable... asking for help from strangers, yet that is what happens when chronic meets catastrophic.
I hope you find a way to help.
Cheers,
Elizabeth
