33-Year-Old Monique Needs Government Grant To Deal With Crohn's Disease

My name Is Monique and I'm a 33-year-old living with Crohn's Disease. I'm looking for a government education grant to learn a skill that will help me better live with my disability.

It started about five years ago while I was working as a preschool teacher and completing my Associates Degree for community and social service.

I began getting sick on a daily basis, unable to keep food down. I also been getting intestinal pains that became unbearable. I lost a tremendous amount of weight and could no longer do what I love the most -- working with children.

I've been housebound for the last three years, going out only for doctor appointments. The pain is constant but I remain positive thank to my family who remains by my side.

I'm asking for a government education grant so I can go to college online to get a certificate in medical billing and coding. Medical billing is work I can do from home so I can remain a productive member of society and have something to bring extra income.

A grant for education will help me pay for this as I cannot do it on my own. I'm living on my Social Security Disability check which barely pays my bills.

Living with Crohn's Disease has taking away my independence, my privacy and my ability to take care of myself financially.

I'm just asking for a way to recover the independence and self-esteem that Crohn's Disease has taken away from me. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read this.

There's hope!

Hello, I just found out that I had severe Crohn's in 2009, I do not recommend that you go straight to Remicade, that is what I would do last after you have exhausted everything else. I am on Apriso and Intercort along with Prilosec, a medication you can get over the counter. The most important thing is to stay away from certain foods. I'm sure you know about not eating nuts, hamburger and things such as ketchup, which have acids in them. You need to do things that will keep your mind off of the pain which I know is hard. Believe me, I'm a Police Officer and its not easy, but I have found ways to deal with it.

No cure for Crohn's

You never beat Crohn's, only manage it at best. My daughter has moderate to severe Crohn's, is on Remicade and it works until she menstruates. She suffers monthly with the symptoms Crohn's presents.

It's frustrating that severe Crohn's is not recognized as a disability by the government, because it is disabling to my daughter every month. Obviously it's better for men being treated for the disease.
